At Green Street Dental in London we use a range of orthodontic treatments from traditional braces – functional, ceramic, fixed braces, and retainers, we have it covered.
Children and teenagers can have orthodontic treatment as soon as all of their baby teeth have fallen out, this is usually around 11 years old for girls and 12 years old for boys. The goal of early treatment is to correct the growth of the jaw and certain bite problems, such as underbite. Early treatment also helps to make room for permanent teeth to come in properly, lessening the chance of extractions in the future.
Orthodontic treatment for children is free of charge under the NHS,
Most children lose all their baby teeth by age 13. By the end of their teen years, the jaw bones will harden and stop growing. Orthodontic procedures for adults often take more time and can involve tooth extraction or oral surgery. Receiving early orthodontic treatment as a child can help prevent the need for orthodontics as an adult, leaving little to no chance of extraction or surgery in the future.

The consultation
Before we begin treatment, we will ask that you bring your child in for a free consultation. During this appointment, we will discuss your child’s dental history and take some digital x-rays and scans of your child’s smile to detect any problems with their teeth and jaws. These digital x-rays are far safer than traditional x-rays with drastically reduced radiation levels. In addition, we will be able to see the results of these scans immediately on our computer screen and can discuss orthodontic options in detail with you.
